El Buho is located on the Las Terrazas farm, which is part of the La Bolsa farm in Huehuetenango.

Finca La Bolsa was purchased by Jorge Vides, a distinguished medical professional, in 1958. Jorge won a series of awards for coffee production and for services to the Huehuetenango region, and the main hospital in the coffee community bears his name.

The Bag competed in the 2002 Cup Of Excellence competition and came in second, with a score of 94.98. The Stock Exchange is located between two mountains, which provide a very stable humid microclimate. This, combined with the rich limestone soils, gives the coffee a unique profile, with a rich syrupy body and plenty of malic and citrus acidity.

The coffee is fermented between 18 and 24 hours and then it is cleaned of mucilage, classified into carcasses and soaked overnight. The Exchange is RFA certified and follows CAFE practice guidelines

Coffee Care financed the construction of a school and nursery on the farm, with fully trained full-time teachers. When a child attends school or daycare for 5 consecutive days, they receive a weekly supply of rice, beans, and corn. Accommodation is provided for permanent and temporary workers, with separate facilities for men and women and families, bathrooms and kitchens.

Sections of the farm are reserved areas, to promote biodiversity, reduce exposure to winds and soil erosion. Inga trees are used as shade trees and to fix nitrogen in the soil, which is essential for plant and cherry growth.

Grades:

  • coffee flowers
  • Red fruits like raspberry
  • toffee,
  • Black pepper spices and wine aftertaste, round and full body.
