The Barista Skills Intermediate course builds on the concepts and skills introduced in the Foundation course. It is the ideal course for those who have experience as baristas and want to analyze how to improve the quality of coffee and prepare to perform more complex tasks within the profession. Throughout this interactive course, students will learn more about coffee itself, specifically the impact of coffee variety, origin and processing methods on flavor; the parameters of coffee quantity, grinding texture, water quality and extraction time and how they interact when programming a recipe; the structure of the drink and the differences in taste; workflow efficiency and management; sensory aspects of the extraction of an espresso; techniques and treatment of milk, and latte art. In addition to coffee preparation, this course also covers key concepts related to health and safety, customer service, and basic business practices.
Course duration: minimum of 14 hours, including the practical exam
Prerequisites: Introduction to Coffee and Barista Foundation are recommended (but not required) prerequisite modules. It will be taken for granted that all the knowledge and skills of these modules are possessed, an end that can be put to the test through practical and/or written exams.
